高分子辐照降解 在高能射线作用下，高分子发生主链断裂或老化变性的过程。辐照降解属于无规降解。一般热降解往往从某些不稳定的端基开始，分解得到大量的单体，分子量较低的聚合物产率则较低，而利用辐照降解方法可制取分子量大小不同的高分子，反应产率较高（见高分子降解、高分子热降解）。 最典型的辐照降解的高分子是聚异丁烯、聚甲基丙烯酸甲酯和聚四氟乙烯等，天然高分子纤维素及其衍生物也属此类。高分子辐照降解可以在室温进行，射线源一般用钴60或电子加速器，辐照剂量视高分子结构不同可以在106～109拉德范围内。辐照降解主要是由于射线打断高分子主链后所形成的自由基，由于结构因素（如空间位阻效应等）的影响难于进行偶合反应，而只进行歧化或链转移反应，使分子量迅速下降。平均分子量下降的速度与辐照剂量成线性关系，因而可以用辐照剂量来控制所需要的产物分子量。在制备某些不易用聚合方法合成的低分子量的聚合物，如工业用的低分子量的聚氧化乙烯时，就采用这种方法。聚四氟乙烯废料经辐照降解后可得到粒度为几个微米的细粉，称为聚四氟乙烯蜡，生产过程简单，蜡收率高，产生毒性气体少，可用作润滑油的添加剂及耐温、耐摩擦材料的填料。
