中南民族大学图书馆图书馆始建于1951年，1980年重新建馆， 2002年又扩建新馆，馆舍总面积达28755平方米。新馆为双塔楼，共17层，高85米。设有电子阅览室、声像阅览室、工具书阅览室、报刊阅览室、古籍文献阅览室、专业图书借阅室、民族文献阅览室等28个阅览室。1、部门设置：图书馆设有党总支、馆办公室、采访部、编目部、流通部、阅览部、技术管理部、信息开发咨询部。2、职工队伍：图书馆现有工作人员131人。正式职工中大专以上55人，本科以上58人，研究生4人，在读博士1人，有高级职称者16人，职工队伍结构比较合理。3、馆藏。目前我馆已形成具有本校特色、结构合理、质量较高的图书馆藏体系，全校馆藏文献总量130万多册。文献内容包括文史哲、数理化、经济、法律、教育、管理、外语、电子工程、计算技术、生物医学等学科。特别是少数民族文献是我馆的特色馆藏，约有10万余册。文献类型以印刷型出版物为主，外文文献语种有英、日、俄、法、德等多种语言。同时，图书馆相继建起了中国学术期刊光盘镜像站点和包括30万册电子图书的数字图书馆，安装了中国资讯数据库、springer link科学文献库等各种中外电子信息资源。全馆可供阅览的微机共计500台。其中1层南楼电子阅览室（140台）可免费上机查阅图书馆所有网上电子资料。图书馆网上资源面对全校24小时开放。4、发展前景。学校党委和行政十分重视图书馆的发展和图书文献资料建设。“十五”期间，图书馆将进一步加大各类纸质图书的购买力度，筹建中南地区最大的民族文献中心。与此同时，图书馆要重点加强图书文献的电子化、网络化、数字化建设，不断扩充图书馆电子图书和电子期刊的内容，并根据学校教学科研的需要，购置各学科门类所必需的中外文专业数据库，有计划地新增一些光盘数据库等，让全校师生员工更方便、快捷地利用我校数字图书馆的资源，使图书馆真正成为我校广大师生教学、科研的文献资料基地和信息发布中心。
