尾旋 飞机在超过临界迎角后绕其自身的三根轴自转的同时、重心沿陡的螺旋线航迹急剧下降的自发运动，又称螺旋（图1）。尾旋的特点是迎角大(20°～70°)、螺旋半径小（甚至只有几米）、旋转角速度高（甚至可达几弧度每秒）、下沉速度大（甚至达百米每秒）。尾旋不是飞机的正常飞行状态。但为了训练或研究的目的，某些高机动性飞机（如歼击机、教练机）允许有意进入尾旋并改出。半机动性飞机（如轰炸机、侦察机）和非机动性飞机（如旅客机、运输机）严禁进入尾旋。由于尚不能保证飞机在任何情况下都不会意外地进入尾旋，多年来尾旋事故屡有发生。完整的尾旋运动由三个阶段组成，即进入阶段、尾旋阶段和改出阶段。尾旋阶段又可分成尾旋过渡阶段和垂直尾旋阶段（图2）。垂直尾旋阶段是研究尾旋的主要阶段。 根据飞机是由正飞或倒飞进入，尾旋分为正尾旋和反尾旋。根据尾旋时飞机俯仰角的不同,尾旋分为陡尾旋(｜｜＞50°)、缓尾旋(30°≤｜｜≤50°)和平尾旋(｜｜＜30°)（图3）。根据尾旋时运动参数是否随时间而变，尾旋可分为稳定尾旋和不稳定尾旋。 改出尾旋的关键是首先要能制止自转，然后设法减小迎角，使飞机进入俯冲，最后由俯冲中改出。针对不同的尾旋形态，人们已研究出多种改出正、反尾旋的操纵方法。如对正尾旋，有"先蹬反舵、再前推杆、副翼中立"的所谓"标准改法"；有"脚蹬放平、杆居中位、副翼中立"的所谓"三中立"改法；还有"脚蹬放平、杆中立、顺（尾旋方向）压杆"的所谓"平中顺"改法等。 采用失速特性较好的翼型和机翼平面形状，尽量使质量沿机翼、机身分布合理，减少大迎角时机翼、机身对尾翼的遮蔽和平尾对垂尾的遮蔽以提高舵面效率等，是保证飞机具有满意尾旋特性所经常采用的设计措施。
