霍曼斯霍曼斯（1910～）Homans，GeorgeCasper美国社会学家，社会交换论的代表人物之一。1932年毕业于哈佛大学，获文学学士学位，留校任教。曾参加帕雷托学说小组讨论会，并于1934年与人合著《帕雷托理论介绍》一书，从此步入社会学界。1939～1941年任大学讲师。第二次世界大战期间在美国海军服役。1946年回到哈佛大学，正式转入社会学系，1953年任社会学系教授，1967～1970年任社会学系主任。1963～1964年任美国社会学协会主席。霍曼斯学术研究领域很广，包括历史学、人类学、心理学及科学哲学。早期受T.帕森斯影响，强调小群体研究的重要意义，分析了其中的行为变量。如活动、交往和情感三者的关系，为交换理论奠定了基础。后期他批判了帕森斯和E.迪尔凯姆的社会学理论，强调人和人的动机的重要作用，并认为人与人之间的互动从根本上说是一种交换过程，逐渐把社会学还原为微观的社会心理研究。他把社会看作是个人行动和行为交换的结果，个人行为是社会学研究的最高原则。他的理论被称为行为主义交换论。著有《人类群体》、《情感和活动》、《社会行为：它的基本形式》、《社会科学的本质》等。
